The Dutch Water Alliance (DWA)and Nepal WASH Alliance (NWA)supported 2014/15 program titled “Increasing access to improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)”, partnering with Simavi / NEWAH was launched on 30 June 2014 in Gorkha district by the Chief District Officer. The program covers 13 Village Development Committees (VDC) of the district located in Western part of Nepal.
Along with the District WASH Coordination Committee members (D-WASH-CC), the representatives of the Village WASH Coordination Committee (V-WASH-CC), journalists and NEWAH staff were part of the program. Followed by the launch, a workshop was organized to introduce the participants to the program, activities and budget. The FIETS sustainability approach and diamond model promoted by DWA was also shared. The crux and principles of the National Sanitation and Hygiene Master Plan 2011 was highlighted and roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders at the VDC level were clarified.
On 1 July, the Federation of Water and Sanitation Users (FEDWASUN) district office was inaugurated by the Local Development Officer of Gorkha. On the same day a right to water and sanitation training was run for the D-WASH-CC and V-WASH-CC members with the facilitation support of FEDWASUN legal advisor.
