Isinya Sampin shallow well is in Enkorika area of Dalalekutuk Ward. The catchment of the shallow well is a spring which has water all year round. It was constructed by German Agro Action in 2015. NIA sought permission from GAA and was granted the permission to conduct an assessment and fix the well. When we visited the site, the pump was not working and so we suspected that either the pump was faulty or water was not getting into the well or both. The community confirmed that it worked only one day after installation and then it failed to pump water anymore. With the cooperation of technicians from AMREF Kenya, we did a technical assessment of the well and confirmed that there was a lot of water in the well. The pump was faulty and we were able to fish it out and assess the broken parts for replacement. It then follows that if we fix the pump, there will be no need for seeking to recharge the well as the recharge function is working well. There is however need to drain by pumping all the water in the well and disinfect (if possible) the well before commissioning it for use again.
